At Toby's, Homage, a photography exhibition, continues in the gallery.

At Vladimir's in Inverness, there's a Celtic music jam every Saturday afternoon.

And two doors away, Coastal Dave with Gut Bucket Blues plays the Blackbird at 7:00. Donations accepted.

At 9:00, the Scallywags play at the Western in Point Reyes Station.

Sunday, January 22

In Point Reyes Station, Gallery Route One's Sunday Salon 4:00-5:00 is an open-ended discussion on the last day of the current exhibit. See galleryrouteone.org. The gallery is closed on Tuesdays.

Rain won't keep folks from moving Sunday morning. There's Dad's Basketball 10-noon at the West Marin School gym, or The Big Yes: West Marin Ecstatic Dance from 10 to 1:00 at the Dance Palace, free and for all age groups.

Later at the Dance Palace pianist Steve Halpern plays original compositions and improvisations at 4:00. tickets are $20 general, $18 seniors. www.dancepalace.org

NATURE

The elephant seals have returned to Chimney Rock and are courting and giving birth. On weekends, the Point Reyes National Seashore runs a shuttle from both Drakes Beach and Bear Valley headquarters. Details at the web site.

It's not too late for salmon to come upstream now that rain has raised stream levels. Contact SPAWN.org for information about weekend creek walks, at 10 and 1:00 in Taylor Woods. Pre-registration is required and donations are welcome.

Raptors (owls and hawks) are courting and laying eggs now, timed to give their chicks plenty of tasty voles, gophers, etc. from the first broods of spring. Wintering birds are preparing to depart. The Northern California Birdbox, (415) 681-7422 x3 gives latest bay area sightings, and you can post there.

Early wildflowers, and some out of season ones, fooled by our mid-winter dry spell, are blooming. Milkmaids are abundant, and shade lovers such as trillium, fetid adder's tongue and yellow violets can be found in the woods. California poppies and sticky monkey flowers are blooming out of season and have been reported at one of the best viewing spots, Chimney Rock, near the lighthouse.
